At DBT-UK, we remain committed to widening access to high-quality, evidence-based therapy. This January, we are pleased to share updates across our DBT groups in the UK. These include the launch of a brand-new RO DBT group, alongside new intakes for our established family DBT group and standard DBT skills group.
Together, these groups offer structured and compassionate support for individuals and families. They also provide practical skills to help manage emotions, improve relationships, and cope more effectively with everyday challenges.
Supporting Access to DBT Groups in the UK
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a well-established approach that supports people to build skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Over time, demand for DBT groups in the UK has continued to increase. As a result, DBT-UK regularly offers new group intakes and develops specialist programmes.
This January, DBT-UK is offering:
-
A brand-new Radically Open DBT (RO DBT) group
-
A new intake for the family DBT group
-
A new intake for the standard DBT skills group
Importantly, experienced and trained clinicians facilitate all groups. This ensures participants receive safe, effective, and evidence-based care.
Brand-New RO DBT Group Starting Monday 19 January
DBT-UK is excited to launch a brand-new RO DBT group, starting on Monday 19 January, from 10:00am to 12:30pm. This is a new addition to our DBT groups in the UK and reflects growing awareness of the needs of people who struggle with over-control.
RO DBT supports individuals who experience traits such as perfectionism, emotional inhibition, rigidity, high self-criticism, or social withdrawal. Unlike standard DBT, which focuses on difficulties with under-control, RO DBT specifically targets excessive self-control.
Therefore, participants learn skills that increase openness, flexibility, and emotional expression. In addition, RO DBT places strong emphasis on social connection. Skills focus on signalling openness, improving relationships, and responding more adaptively to uncertainty.
As a result, this new RO DBT group offers an important option for individuals who may not have found traditional therapies helpful in the past.
Family DBT Group: New Intake Starting Monday 19 January
DBT-UK is also opening a new intake for its family DBT group, starting on the evening of Monday 19 January. While this group is not new, it continues to run regular intakes due to ongoing demand.
This family DBT group is designed specifically for family members, partners, and parents of people who are taking part in standard DBT. Rather than focusing on individual therapy, the group helps loved ones understand DBT and learn how best to support someone using DBT skills.
In this group, participants learn core DBT concepts such as validation, emotional regulation, and effective communication. Consequently, families develop a shared understanding of DBT. This shared approach can reduce conflict and increase empathy within relationships.
As one of the more established family-focused DBT groups in the UK, this group offers ongoing and structured support for loved ones.
Standard DBT Skills Group: New Intake Starting Monday 19 January at 6pm
In addition, DBT-UK is welcoming a new intake to its standard DBT skills group, starting on Monday 19 January at 6:00pm. This group follows the core DBT skills model and remains a central part of our DBT groups in the UK.
Participants learn and practise skills across four key areas:
-
Mindfulness
-
Distress tolerance
-
Emotional regulation
-
Interpersonal effectiveness
Through regular practice and group support, participants can build confidence and apply skills in daily life. Therefore, this group suits both those new to DBT and those returning to refresh their skills.
Finding the Right DBT Group for You
With several DBT groups in the UK starting or accepting new intakes this January, choosing the right group depends on your needs. The new RO DBT group may suit those who struggle with over-control. Meanwhile, the standard DBT group supports emotional regulation more broadly. The family DBT group offers shared learning and relational change.
If you would like to learn more about any of these DBT groups in the UK, please contact DBT-UK. We look forward to supporting you on your DBT journey.
