About Us

DBT UK was founded in response to a growing need for high-quality, adherent Dialectical Behaviour Therapy in the UK.

We believe that DBT can be profoundly life-changing when delivered as it was intended: with clinical integrity, strong therapeutic relationships, accountability, and a genuine commitment to evidence-based practice.

Too often, individuals seeking DBT encounter watered-down or heavily adapted approaches that do not reflect the treatment model shown in research to create meaningful and lasting change. DBT UK was created to offer an alternative: a service grounded in fidelity to the model, high standards of clinical care, and real therapeutic investment in our clients’ progress.

Our Philosophy

At DBT UK, we often describe our approach as brave therapy. DBT asks a great deal from both clients and therapists: honesty, commitment, persistence, and the willingness to work through painful patterns in pursuit of a life worth living.

In return, we offer a highly supportive and compassionate environment that balances
acceptance with challenge, accountability with validation, and evidence-based treatment
with genuine human connection.

We are passionate about protecting the integrity of DBT because we have seen the difference it can make when delivered properly. Our clinicians are selected not only for their training and experience, but for their commitment to doing this work with skill, consistency, warmth, and authenticity.

Founded by Darryl Christie

DBT UK was founded by Darryl Christie in 2020. Alongside leading DBT UK, Darryl provides specialist supervision, consultancy, and training to clinicians and organisations across the NHS, private healthcare, and voluntary sector.

He has supervised and trained multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, and support workers in the delivery of evidence-based DBT and the treatment of personality disorder. His work has included consultancy for NHS services, private hospitals, and leading mental health organisations, and he has gained recognition as a subject matter expert in adherent DBT.

Before founding DBT UK, Darryl worked for over 17 years across the NHS and social services, including within specialist personality disorder services and complex mental health settings.

What is DBT?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a weekly programme that combines individual therapy and skills classes for individuals who experience difficulties in regulating emotions, including those diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) or traits.

There is no specific diagnostic requirement to participate in the programme. However, if intense emotions, unmanageable distress, or problematic behaviours interfere with your ability to function effectively in your personal or professional relationships, DBT may be exactly what you need.

DBT will help you cope more effectively with self-harm, extreme emotional sensitivity, mood swings, ADHD, eating difficulties, anger, depression, anxiety, intense relationships, impulsivity, and, ultimately, guide you in building a fulfilling and satisfying life.
